About

In May 2012, Danolene Johanessen was invited to do a talk at a school, on abuse in Cape Town. On arriving at the school, she was greeted by a boy, who was very poorly dressed. His jersey was being held together by safety pins. Even his school shoes were broken. Danolene could see the embarrassment on his face as he greeted her.

She delivered her talk and left the school feeling extremely unsettled. She immediately went to the shops and bought him a new school jersey and school shoes. She returned to the school to hand over these items. She was touched by his animated joy as he received these gifts.

This event changed her life forever and she couldn't wait to share this experience with her family. Together she and husband agreed that as a family they want to as many children with similar circumstance, one child at the time.

That event marks the day of Royal Kidz unofficially birth.

Royal Kidz started its “Sole4Souls” campaign, with the help of the staff at Liberty Health and The Motorcycle Association of the Western Cape, they managed to dress over 900 pairs of feet with shoes, with that one campaign.

Royal Kidz aim to restore the dignity of each child, not just in Cape Town but across South Africa, by networking and partnering with other like-minded organisations. Royal Kidz was officially launched and registered in 2013.
