Royal Kidz hosted its inaugural Gala Evening on 7 December 2016. The event was hosted at Kaleidoscope Café, in Claremont and they welcomed their first 125 guests to the event. Although this was a fundraiser, this event was also a great platform for Royal Kidz to introduce our vision and mission that drives the project, as well as present its first Ambassador, Robin Pieters.
Like our founder member, Danolene Johanessen, Robin echoed the same plea, that we all spare a thought for a child who has nothing. Many of us have the option to choose which pair of shoes we wish to wear each morning, yet we have hundreds of children within the borders of the Western Cape alone, who do not own a single pair of shoes. This evening consisted not only of good food and but had an element of fun and entertainment attached to it, as many guests did not leave empty handed, as they showered with many prizes and an auction.
Other than being the ambassador for Red Ribbon, Robin Pieters shared his musical talents with the guests. Other special guest included MC Anton Brink, from Radio Tygerberg. Earl Deetlefs, who hails from PE and is no stranger to the stage gladly graced the stage with a young and upcoming band called Signature SA. They provided most of the entertainment for the evening, with Ruby Truter, the 2016 Open Mike Jazz, first Runner up, Heart FM and Grand West.
Also present at the event was Kelly Baron, from Son Koerant, the media sponsor for Robin’s next show, ‘It’s a Love Thing’ in February 2017. The guests were so caught up in the festivity that one of them offered his services and joined in on the entertainment and sang a song as his contribution. The greatest joy for the evening was finding two pairs of shoes alongside the new pair of school shoes that served as table décor, left behind anonymously by a guest.
We hope to see all our followers and fans at all our future events.
